How an install actually runs
Six steps, no mystery. Here is what happens between your first call and the last piece of shoe molding.
01
In-home measure
We measure every room, check subfloor flatness with a straightedge, pull a corner of the existing floor where we can, and look at door swings, transitions and stair details. Slabs get a moisture reading.
02
Written scope and number
You get an itemized scope: demo and haul-off, underlayment removal if needed, leveling, moisture mitigation, material with waste factor, transitions, trim and labor. Anything conditional is flagged before you sign, not after.
03
Material selection and ordering
We narrow product to what fits the room, the subfloor and the budget, then order with enough overage for cuts and a spare box. Wood and laminate acclimate in the conditioned house, not the garage.
04
Prep day
Old flooring comes out, fasteners and adhesive residue are dealt with, soft decking gets replaced, and the subfloor is flattened to the manufacturer's tolerance. This is the step that decides how the finished floor feels underfoot.
05
Installation
Layout is planned so the longest sight line runs clean and cuts land where they are least visible. We keep expansion gaps at every vertical surface and dust-control the work area at the end of each day.
06
Trim, transitions and walkthrough
Base or shoe goes back, transitions are set at doorways and level changes, and we walk the whole floor with you in daylight. Anything you flag gets handled before we call it done.

Questions about the install week
- How long does a typical install take?
- A single room is usually a day. A main floor of roughly 800 to 1,200 square feet is commonly two to four working days, plus any prep. Tile takes longer because of set and grout cure times.
- Do we have to move out?
- Almost never. We usually work room by room or zone by zone so the house stays livable. We will talk through where furniture goes and which rooms are offline on which days.
- Who moves the furniture and hauls away the old floor?
- We handle standard furniture moving and haul-off of the old flooring unless you would rather do it yourself to reduce the scope. Pianos, gun safes and aquariums need a specialist.
- What happens if you find something bad under the old floor?
- We stop, photograph it and show you before doing anything extra. Rotted decking, hidden water damage or asbestos-suspect sheet vinyl all change the plan, and you approve the change in writing first.
