How Long a Flooring Installation Really Takes

Most whole main-floor projects are a few days of work inside a two to four week overall timeline. Here is where the time actually goes.

Before install day

From first call to a scheduled start is usually one to three weeks, depending on season and material availability. Special-order wood and tile can extend that; stocked vinyl and laminate rarely do.

Acclimation happens inside that window. Material is delivered into the conditioned house and left to reach equilibrium before a single plank is cut.

Demolition and prep: half a day to two days

Pulling carpet is fast. Removing glued sheet vinyl, failed particleboard or old thinset-bonded tile is slow, dusty work, and it is the step most likely to grow once the old floor is up.

Leveling compound needs cure time. If a room needs self-leveler, that is typically an extra day before install can start on it.

Installation

Rough guides for an average home, once prep is complete: floating LVP or laminate runs about 400–800 square feet per crew day; glue-down or nailed hardwood is slower; tile is slower still because of layout, setting and a separate grout day.

Stairs are their own category. A full flight with wrapped treads and risers can take a day by itself and is quoted separately for that reason.

Trim, transitions and cleanup

Reinstalling or replacing base and shoe, setting transition strips, and undercutting jambs is typically the final half-day. It is also where the quality of the job becomes visible.

We haul debris out, vacuum, and walk the floor with you under the room's own lighting before calling it done.

What causes delays

In our experience the top three are hidden subfloor damage found at demo, special-order material backorders, and other trades running behind in a larger remodel.

We would rather tell you about a delay early than compress prep to hold a date.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to move out?
Rarely. Most homeowners stay, working room by room. Site-finished hardwood is the exception because of fumes and cure time.
Do I have to move the furniture?
We can handle furniture moving; it just needs to be in the estimate. Clearing closets, breakables and electronics ahead of time is always your part.
Can you work around my schedule?
Usually. Tell us your fixed dates — a move-in, a listing, a family event — and we will build the schedule backward from them or tell you honestly if it will not fit.

Send us the rooms and rough square footage and we will schedule an in-home measure.
